HUAWEI MATE 20 PRO TECHNICAL SHEET AND CHARACTERISTICS, TEST, OPINION

The new Huawei Mate 20 was unveiled by the manufacturer at a conference in London on October 16. Huawei has also formalized the Mate 20 Pro which is a variation of the first high-end smartphone. Below, our opinion on the Huawei Mate 20 and the Mate 20 Pro, as well as its price and all the technical characteristics of the 2 smartphones from the Chinese manufacturer.

While Huawei threw in the towel in the United States in the face of pressure from the American government, the Chinese giant decided to bet on London to unveil its 2 new flagships: the Mate 20 and the Mate 20 Pro. While Apple and Google presented two models of smartphones where only the format changed (iPhone XS vs iPhone XS Max, Pixel 3 vs Pixel 3 XL), Huawei really distinguished the two products in terms of technical characteristics, and the impact is also sensitive to the price.

Below, you will therefore find a summary of the 2 Android phones (EMUI 9.0) as well as our opinion on the Mate 20 and the Mate 20 Pro. As you can also see in our video test below, our opinion is that the Mate 20 Pro is probably the best Android smartphone in 2019. The bar is really high, and we will see that below.

Huawei a utilisé deux technologies pour les écrans de ses nouveaux Mate 20 et Mate 20 Pro: le premier fait appel à un écran LCD de 6:53 pouces (FHD + de 3120 x 1440 pixels) tandis que le second fait appel à un écran AMOLED de 6:39 pouces (QHD + de 3120 x 1440 pixels). Au niveau du rendu, l’écran du Mate 20 et celui du Mate 20 Pro sont d’excellente qualité. Celui de la version Pro est légèrement plus lumineux, en raison de la résolution qui est légèrement meilleure.
The ratio écran / boitier pour le Mate 20 est donc de 88.09% sur le Mate 20 et 86.90% sur le Mate 20 Pro. Huawei en profite pour le comparer avec celui de ses concurrents: 83.67% sur l’iPhone XS, et même 78.12% sur l’iPhone XR. Cela fait à notre avis of the Huawei Mate Mate 20 et 20 Pro deux leaders qui se positionnent vraiment sur toutes les caractéristiques techniques.

Pour ce qui est de la taille du boitier des deux smartphones, on retrouve du côté du Huawei Mate 20 un boitier de 72.3 mm x 157.8 mm x 8.3 mm, et du côté du Mate 20 Pro, un boitier de 77.2 mm x 158.2 mm x 8.6 mm Autrement dit, le boitier du Mate 20 Pro est légèrement plus grand, bien que la taille de son écran soit légèrement plus petite.

Aother very important element that distinguishes the screen of the Mate 20 from the screen of the Mate 20 Pro: the small notch at the top of the latter. For the Mate 20 Pro, the notch is wider because it also hides the facial recognition technology (which is not available on the

Mate 20). Note that the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro still hold the fingerprint reader – although they are in two different places on each smartphone

Another important fact about the state of the two smartphones: while the Mate 20 retains its socket at the bottom of the case, this is no longer the case of the Mate 20 Pro which removes it to make room for the USB-C connector. Let’s continue this review Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro with colors.

Whether it’s a Mate 20 or a Mate 20, both phones are available in four colors on the French market. So we find emerald green, midnight blue, twilight and black for both models. Weight of Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro
The Mate 20 is slightly larger than the Mate 20 Pro, but not heavier. In fact, the Mate 20 weighs 188 grams compared to 189 grams for the Mate 20 Pro. If you compare it to other recently released smartphones, it’s: the iPhone XS weighs 177 grams, while the Pixel 3 only weighs 148 grams. The difference is therefore negligible with the Apple model – but a little more with the Google product.

Kirin 980 chip performance
Huawei has promised to launch a new chip, the Kirin 980. It replaces version 970 which supplied the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro or P20 and P20 Pro. According to the manufacturer, the SoC Kirin 980 is generally more efficient than the old version: 75% faster on CPU and 46% faster on GPU. This also justifies our positive opinion on the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro: Huawei has been able to adapt to new uses (notably games) by using a more powerful chip.

We saw the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro
First, let’s start with our review of the Mate 20. Cheaper than the Mate 20 Pro, this smartphone is more balanced between the two. The excellent image sensor and Kirin 980 SoC makes it an advanced smartphone, which has nothing to envy in competition. The small flat panel LCD has been reset compared to some, but the Mate 20 is in direct confrontation with the iPhone XR, and it seems to be working better than the resistance against the brand’s smartphone with the apple.

For Huawei Mate 20 Pro, it puts a small slap on the competition: wireless charging (in both directions!), Ultra-fast charging (70% in 30 minutes), long battery life, the once-announced photo sensor with an excellent fingerprint reader under The screen, contains everything from the perfect smartphone. Huawei has decided to charge a 3D facial recognition feature like Apple that is expanding its range, and that’s the only damaging point in the Mate 20 Pro compared to the Mate 20 in terms of design.
